Why Did We Develop a Coaching Certification Program?

Like many young coaches striking out on their own, Coach JD thought that getting certified was an important step to gain credibility. He was not aware that these certification programs did absolutely nothing to make him a better coach. The certification programs that were known in the industry, such as the USPTA and PTR, seemed more interested in generating revenue than in creating quality tennis coaches. 

It bothered him that so many other young coaches who would come after him were being fooled into thinking that these certification programs would help them to be better coaches. They were being targeted the same way he was at a time when he was most vulnerable and had the least amount of money available. The certification programs were, in his eyes, swindling young coaches and taking advantage of their naivety since they were new to the business and indeed not learning the fundamentals of coaching tennis.

And without fail, every certified individual who came to him seeking employment was quite unqualified. At that moment, JD felt that if he wanted to have coaches who could help him reach his vision for his program, he would have to come up with his own coach training and certification program.

Unlike other organizations, JD does not charge a single penny to the student-coach and guarantees employment within his company to those who go through the certification process with Barbosa Tennis.
